Water Resources Engineer
Job Overview
We are seeking a multi-disciplinary Water Resources Engineer with a strong understanding of civil and environmental engineering practices. This role also requires an appreciation for biological and ecological science. Candidates should hold a BS or MS degree in a relevant engineering discipline. Strong communication skills, familiarity with civil engineering software, and experience in hydraulics and river mechanics are advantageous. While Northampton, MA is the preferred location, any New England office location will be considered based on candidate experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Assessment and Design: Support a variety of water resource engineering projects related to aquatic habitat restoration, including dam removal, culvert replacement, flood risk assessment, coastal resilience, and stream restoration.
- Documentation and Design Materials: Prepare written documentation and engineering design materials.
- Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling: Apply modeling techniques to assess water flow and hydraulic behavior.
- Fieldwork: Perform fieldwork as needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with scientific disciplines within our holistic Environment Services program.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Drafting Skills: Familiarity with AutoCAD software and Civil 3D.
- Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of mathematics, engineering mechanics, and creative problem-solving.
- Field Experience: Ability to perform fieldwork and work in and along waterways.
- GIS Knowledge: Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS.
- Hydraulics Interest: Experience or interest in hydraulics and river mechanics.
Education and Experience
- Degree: BS or MS in civil or environmental engineering.
- Certification: EIT certification (if applicable).
- PE preferred.
- 5+ years of experience.
