Role Overview

As a Commercial Credit Officer, you’ll be responsible for assessing credit risk, analyzing financial data, and ensuring compliance with established bank policies. Your expertise will guide lending decisions, and you’ll collaborate closely with lending officers, underwriters, and other stakeholders. Let’s dive into the specifics:

Responsibilities

  1. Underwriting Credit Requests:

    • Prepare comprehensive Credit Approval Memoranda (CAM) for presentation to the appropriate Loan Approval Hierarchy.
    • Analyze borrowers’ and guarantors’ financial statements, assessing cash flow, capacity, collateral, and major risks associated with lending to these businesses.
    • Ensure that credit proposals align with the bank’s risk appetite and guidelines.
  2. Collaboration with Lending Officers:

    • As the senior analyst on the underwriting team, you’ll handle more complex and larger loan requests.
    • Interact with lending officers, occasionally participating in joint calls to gather necessary information.
    • Provide guidance on structuring credit proposals to protect the bank’s interests.
  3. Assisting Teammates:

    • Support junior analysts by addressing their questions related to credit requests, including structural considerations and financial analysis.
    • Foster a collaborative environment within the team.
  4. Additional Responsibilities:

    • Conduct periodic portfolio reviews and credit file audits.
    • Ensure compliance with covenant requirements and financial reporting obligations.
    • Contribute to special projects as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Work Experience: At least 5 years of specific work experience in financial analysis, structuring, underwriting, and portfolio management.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong technical and analytical abilities, including financial accounting, modeling, and loan structuring.
  • Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of credit policy, procedures, regulations, and applicable laws.
  • Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with intermediate Excel skills. Familiarity with Power BI is preferred.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Industry Context: Experience working in a banking or financial services environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to meticulously review loan documentation for conformance with approval terms.
