Navigating Business and Friendship: A Special Reunion

One of the greatest rewards in my career has come from the relationships I’ve built—connections that extend beyond business and grow into something deeply personal.

Reuniting After 14 Years

This weekend, we reconnected with friends we met during our year-long sailing adventure 14 years ago. That journey offered more than just new horizons—it brought challenges, moments of discovery, and lasting lessons. But the most enduring gift from that time? The friendships. These bonds have stood the test of time, shaped by trust, respect, and shared experience.

Where Friendships and Business Intersect

Reflecting on those relationships made me think about the similarities between life at sea and the world of executive search. Sailing demands focus, teamwork, and trust—so does successful leadership recruiting. Strong business outcomes often come from strong relationships. That’s not a coincidence.

It also reminded me why I launched Broadreach Executive Search. I wanted to build a firm focused on relationships—not transactions. We approach every search with authenticity and the belief that great partnerships begin with shared values and open communication.

Challenging the “Don’t Mix Business and Friendship” Myth

Some say you shouldn’t do business with friends. I’ve never subscribed to that. If you lead with integrity and treat people right, friendship only strengthens professional ties. I’ve witnessed countless examples of friendships opening doors to new business ventures, and professional relationships turning into some of the most meaningful friendships in my life.

Looking Ahead

This reunion reminded me of a simple truth: the real reward in any journey—whether at sea or in business—is the people you bring along. I’m grateful for every shared moment, every lasting connection, and the many more still to come.

Here’s to future reunions, new stories, and more incredible journeys—on every horizon.

Cheers.
