Senior Environmental Scientist – Aviation
Location: Portland, ME (Onsite/Hybrid)
We are seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist with a strong background in environmental permitting, NEPA compliance, and natural resource assessments to support exciting airport and aviation infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities:

Lead or assist with environmental permitting and compliance efforts for aviation-related projects

Prepare NEPA documentation, including Environmental Assessments and Categorical Exclusions

Develop stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs) and conduct stormwater modeling (HydroCAD preferred)

Perform wetland delineations and function/value assessments

Conduct wildlife surveys, habitat assessments, and natural community mapping

Present projects to regulatory agencies, local boards, and commissions

Monitor construction activities and provide environmental oversight

Collaborate with planners and engineers to identify environmental resources and mitigation strategies
Qualifications:

15+ years of relevant experience, ideally in aviation or transportation consulting

Strong knowledge of New England ecosystems, flora/fauna, and listed species programs

Proficiency with Microsoft Office; HydroCAD a plus

Familiarity with federal and state permitting regulations and NEPA compliance

Excellent technical writing and presentation skills

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather; occasional overnight travel

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Biology, Ecology, or related field (master’s preferred)

Demonstrated experience in wetland, soil, and vegetation assessment in New England
