Senior Environmental Scientist – Aviation
Location: Portland, ME (Hybrid/Onsite)

A leading transportation and infrastructure team is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist with strong experience in environmental permitting, NEPA documentation, and natural resource assessments to support aviation projects across New England. This is a unique opportunity to work on impactful airport development initiatives alongside a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead or support environmental permitting and compliance for aviation development projects

  • Prepare NEPA documentation (Environmental Assessments, Categorical Exclusions)

  • Develop stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs) and stormwater modeling

  • Conduct wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and wildlife surveys

  • Present projects to federal, state, and local agencies and boards

  • Oversee field inspections and ensure environmental compliance during construction

  • Collaborate with engineers and planners to mitigate environmental impacts

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of environmental consulting experience (aviation experience preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of New England ecosystems, permitting regulations, and listed species

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; HydroCAD experience strongly preferred

  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work in varied weather conditions; overnight travel occasionally required

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related field (Master’s preferred)

  • Demonstrated experience in plant, soil, and wetland identification in the New England region
