Senior Environmental Scientist – Aviation
Location: Portland, ME (Hybrid/Onsite)
A leading transportation and infrastructure team is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist with strong experience in environmental permitting, NEPA documentation, and natural resource assessments to support aviation projects across New England. This is a unique opportunity to work on impactful airport development initiatives alongside a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead or support environmental permitting and compliance for aviation development projects

Prepare NEPA documentation (Environmental Assessments, Categorical Exclusions)

Develop stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs) and stormwater modeling

Conduct wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and wildlife surveys

Present projects to federal, state, and local agencies and boards

Oversee field inspections and ensure environmental compliance during construction

Collaborate with engineers and planners to mitigate environmental impacts
Qualifications:

15+ years of environmental consulting experience (aviation experience preferred)

Strong knowledge of New England ecosystems, permitting regulations, and listed species

Proficient in Microsoft Office; HydroCAD experience strongly preferred

Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills

Ability to work in varied weather conditions; overnight travel occasionally required

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related field (Master’s preferred)

Demonstrated experience in plant, soil, and wetland identification in the New England region
